Here is my favorite lentil recipe--straight from the email of my friend Silke
The lentils i cook as following:
Squeeze Garlic in pot. Remove garlic, melt butter in pot, add cut onions and sizzle in butter until golden. Add garlic again so it won´t burn. Add fresh basil, oregano and one tomatoe (cut in cubes)
Add lentiles (i do 1.7 ounce per Person) and stir,
Add water so lentiles are well covered. Lentiles need a lot of water so you might need to add BOILED water after a while.
Add one cube of chicken broth and cook for approx. 45 mins.
Add salt and pepper and vinegar if you like.
In a seperate pan, fry some cut sausage and add to the soup.
If you do not do the Spätzles you can also add some potatoes to the lentiles and have them cook together.
