Mrs. Field's Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my all time favorite cookie recipe.  No matter how many other recipes I've tried I always come back to this one.  I originally found it in an old ward cookbook.  It makes a LOT of cookies--so this is a great recipe when you are sharing with others--or taking them to an event.  Also, I often freeze either the dough to make some later or just bake the cookies and freeze some already baked cookies.

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
1 pound butter (4 sticks)
3 eggs
2 tablespoons vanilla
2 teaspoons baking soda
6 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups chocolate chips- this was 6, but 3 is perfect
2 cups nuts (optional)--I never add these because my kiddos don't like them

In a mixing bowl, cream sugar, brown sugar, and butter together.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Mix well.  Add baking soda, flour and salt.  Stir until blended well.  Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.  Drop onto a cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.  Makes about 8 dozen cookies.
